The Black Keys: Photographs by Larry Niehues

We’re pleased to announce a very special event to celebrate the release of a new and exclusive addition to the Modern Rocks Gallery Collection, The Black Keys: Photographs by Larry Niehues.

The Black Keys relationship with Larry Niehues began through a shared love of motorcycles, vintage Americana, and a special feature of Dan Auerbach’s impressive collection of bikes that ran in Dice Magazine. Larry continued to work with Dan Auerbach over the course of a few projects.

Ready for a life change, Larry relocated from Los Angeles to Nashville where he began working with The Black Keys and was ultimately brought on as the band’s official tour photographer. Keeping pace with the band’s rigorous schedule both on and off the road has granted Larry unique access to capture images of the group performing and in more intimate settings.

Drawn from a wealth of thousands of images shot on stage, in the studio, and at rest, this never before seen collection offers an inside view of the band that fans and music lovers are sure to adore.

The event starts at 7pm and will feature a full gallery exhibit, showcasing the collection in its entirety for the first time, cocktails by Dripping Springs Vodka, with guest DJs providing the soundtrack for the evening.

Larry Niehues will be in attendence.

London Rock : The Unseen Archive - Photography by Alec Byrne

Modern Rocks Gallery are pleased to present photographer Alec Byrne's headline grabbing show "LONDON ROCK : The Unseen Archive" following its highly acclaimed opening at The Proud Gallery in London last year.

OPENING RECEPTION - FRIDAY OCTOBER 19th FROM 6PM
SHOW DATES, FRIDAY OCTOBER 19th UNTIL THE END OF DECEMBER.

Byrne’s career began at the age of 17 when he was put under contract to capture live acts for the NME. He was interested in photographing the emerging stars of British music during an incredible period of musical history, describing his schedule as, “The Who on Thursday, The Rolling Stones on Saturday, Led Zeppelin on Monday’. From Mick Jagger’s explosive live performances to tender portraits of a young David Bowie, Byrne worked with a wide range of musicians, revealing their distinctive characteristics in each shot. His intuitive approach was of a rock n’ roll mind-set, favoring candid photography over a studio setting. Byrne’s desire to capture the most powerful imagery saw him battling to the front of crowds and racing home from performances to develop his work through the night.

The show will feature a display of framed silver gelatin prints, including some stunning large format prints, and also a collection of one-of-a-kind, original vintage silver gelatin prints, all available to purchase.

Alec Byrne will be in attendance on the night, with the show running up until the end of the year.

Refreshments by Austin Eastciders with cocktails crafted by ShillingCrafted thanks to Uncle Billy's Smokehouse & Brewery

You can buy selected prints from Alec’s archive from Modern Rocks Gallery

On The Bright Side by Sarah Frankie Linder : Opening Reception

"On The Bright Side" is a fresh take on the high-speed art of live music photography by Sarah Frankie Linder.

Using photos taken at music festivals and venues around Austin, TX, Linder allowed the elusiveness of a blurred, auto-focus effect to create the foundation of each image. The color of each was manipulated, while retaining selected elements of the original, resulting in a new, fresh atmosphere captured in time.

By revitalizing these archived photographs in "On the Bright Side,” Linder invites the eye to explore a unique representation of the live music experience that is vibrant, curious, and thought-provoking. The visually stunning collection features Sarah’s alternative views on bands and artists, including Flaming Lips, Depeche Mode, Savages, Smashing Pumpkins, Rush, Black Angels, Atoms for Peace and Patti Smith.
