Ike and Tina Turner appeared for the first time on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in New York City, on November 23, 1970. Not only did they perform, but they were also interviewed for the episode. They later appeared two more times, in 1971 and 1972.

Having sold over 100 million records worldwide, Tina Turner is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. She has received 12 Grammy Awards, which include eight competitive awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She is a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and is a 2005 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and Women of the Year award.
